Starting the year at the Birthplace of the Khalsa

Anandpur Sahib, also called the Holy City of Bliss, is known world-wide as the birthplace of Khalsa. Here the Siri Singh Sahib Yogi Bhajan founded a teaching center for all seekers around the world to gather on 4 acres of green Punjabi farmland on the beautiful Himalayan foothills of Anandpur Sahib: Dashmesh Sadan.

“It has the mountains and plains, and air from both meets there – the valley of the crosswinds. There is nothing like it. Guru Gobind Singh Ji chose it. He was not wrong. So we built there. Teach a course and see what happens.” – Yogi Bhajan

For us each year it is the perfect place to mingle returning students with new ones, get to know each other, train together, and laugh together.

We spent 4 intensive days at the City of Bliss, check out our pics and see for yourself!

Returning Home

We are back from summer break! So exciting! We are getting up to speed on our blog for the year and we are happy to share today the very first pictures from MPA 2019-2020.

Right after student arrival on campus we went to visit the Golden Temple in early morning hours of the Amrit Vela. It was a first for new students to get up so early, to be properly dressed in school uniform, to be ready for formation at 5.30am. Nevertheless there was no stress at all, returning students helped the new, and everybody was on time. The reward was plentiful at first sight of the Temple or Harimandir Sahib, the heart and home of every Sikh.

We hope you enjoy these pictures of your children on this momentous occasion and look forward to keeping you connected throughout the year.

40 Days of Reverence

As the year draws to a close, there are many lasts. Recently, the students completed their 40 day parkarma seva at the Golden Temple. This year’s seva was a beautiful experience and something our graduating students will surely miss. Time and again, our alumni report that one of the things they miss most about MPA is these 40 days of waking up in the middle of the night to wash the floors of the Golden Temple. Everyone gets into a rhythm with it and finds some way to connect, either through seva, dipping, banis, or even just enjoying a nice cup of chai.

On the final day of seva, we continued the spirit of service and appreciation by honouring all of the workers who serve at MPA. There are dozens of men and women who serve Miri Piri Academy each day by cleaning the classrooms and dorms, by preparing food for us to eat, by beautifying the campus, by driving students and staff and in many other countless ways. To share a token of our appreciation, we invite the workers yearly to join us for gurdwara and langar in their honour. The students and workers enjoy this time together and it’s a nice change to have the students serving those who serve them all year. It’s nice to see the workers and their families on campus enjoying a beautiful Sunday together. The students always enjoy this opportunity to serve.

Left, Right, Left

At MPA we march together as a way of practicing teamwork, coordination, leadership skills and the importance of projection. The marching competition was held this week, and was also a test in flexibility and rising to the challenge. The students had just two hours to put together a 3 minute marching demonstration. They were judged on their precision, the leader’s projection and ability to command, as well as fulfilling the mandatory list of commands, including left and right face, present arms, left and right flank, left and right column, front leaning rest position, among others. Because they practice marching every Wednesday afternoon in their squads, they are able to put together a demonstration in one afternoon. For this competition Gold House came in first followed by White House, Blue House and Silver House.

The End of an ERA

12thies is always a highlight of the year. This year’s 12th grade class was celebrated at the Taj Hotel in Amritsar on their rooftop patio. Organized by the 11th grade class and fundraised for throughout the year, 12thies is a chance to honour the outgoing class. This year’s class was a large class with many students attending MPA for 7+ years. This is the last class that attended MPA as juniors and stuck with MPA and the program for many years. As such they are great examples of MPA spirit and have been here to hold the culture of MPA for many years. Their departure this year marks the end of an era for Miri Piri Academy. Like all graduates, we will miss you next year and wish you the best in the years to come. You’ll always be part of the MPA family and we hope you carry the spirit of MPA with you wherever you go.
